Top 7 England v Germany games
The countdown is on for England's huge clash against Germany on Sunday.
And to get fans in the mood as the teams prepare to renew rivalries, we've come up with our favourite England v Germany matches.
See which games made our Top Seven list here.
No 7 - England 0 Germany 1, 2001
A World Cup qualifier and England's final match before Wembley Stadium was knocked down was supposed to provide a fitting finale for the famous ground.
But with the rain lashing down, Kevin Keegan's reign as England boss ended in disastrous fashion as Dietmar Hamann caught David Seaman unawares and netted the winner from a long-range free-kick.
King Kev could not stomach losing to the Germans and he quit his post from a Wembley toilet, admitting he fell short of what was needed to manage the England football team.
No6 - England 1 Germany 0, 2000
England gained revenge for the Euro 96 defeat with a slender victory in the group stages of Euro 2000.
Alan Shearer showed his liking for taking on the Germans by netting the only goal early in the second half.
The match did not live up to previous renewals and the lack of drama owed much to the fact that neither team would be eliminated regardless of the result.
However, both sides were sent spinning to an early exit after losing their final group games.
No5 - England 1 Germany 1, 1996
Another major tournament semi-final, another draw after 120 minutes and another excruciating penalty shoot-out defeat.
Alan Shearer's early goal had England fans dreaming of a Euro final on home soil.
But Stefan Kuntz soon levelled and Paul Gascoigne was a lick of boot polish away from snatching an extra-time winner.
England were confident from the spot having despatched Spain in the previous round on penalties.
The first 10 spot-kicks were successfully converted but Gareth Southgate was the fall guy as the Germans denied us again.
No4 - England 2 West Germany 3, 1970
The Germans did not have to wait too long to avenge their defeat in the 1966 World Cup final.
And they nicked this quarter-final win in dramatic fashion after fighting back from two goals down.
Franz Beckenbauer kickstarted the comeback and Uwe Seeler's strike took the game into extra time.
Gerd Muller hit the winner but West Germany were defeated in the semi-finals.
No3 - England 1 West Germany 1, 1990
Paul Gascoigne crying is the most enduring image of the 1990 World Cup. He picked up a booking in this semi-final and, as he realised he would not be eligible to play in the final, Gazza could not contain his emotions.
In the end, though, it was West Germany who progressed as England's penalty curse struck for the first time.
Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle were the guilty parties for the Three Lions, while the Germans showed their deadly prowess from 12 yards with four perfect kicks and they went on to lift the trophy.
No2 - Germany 1 England 5, 2001
Michael Owen scored a memorable hat-trick as England stunned the Germans with a remarkable 5-1 victory in their own backyard.
Even Emile Heskey got on the scoresheet as the Three Lions rallied after falling behind to Carsten Jancker's early strike.
It is believed that Germany coach Rudi Voller's father suffered a heart attack during the game.
But although the result gave new England boss Sven Goran Eriksson a place in the nation's heart, his team suffered a quarter-final exit in the finals.
No1 - England 4 West Germany 2, 1966
England won their only major trophy on home soil in the final of the 1966 World Cup.
The match is famous for Geoff Hurst's hat-trick (the only time a treble has been scored in a World Cup final), a Russian linesman (who awarded Hurst his second goal despite doubts about whether the ball had crossed the line) and Ken Wolstenholme's commentary ("there's some people on the pitch, they think it's all over...").
England's win actually sparked a turnaround in Germany's fortunes and they remain undefeated in all of the finals games between the sides since then.
But the final word on this contest goes to England and the sight of Bobby Moore sitting on his team-mates' shoulders proudly showing off the Jules Rimet trophy is one of football's most iconic images.
